You are aware now that a Presence goes before you to “make the crooked places straight,” or a Presence goes with you and protects you. It may be in your car, driving; it may be anywhere; but all of a sudden you have the assurance, “Fear not! Fear not! I am with you.” You find that it is true, no matter what the danger is, no matter what the discord is, no matter what the misunderstanding is, it passes. These are not to be found. “Be still.” Only in deep silence, in refraining from “taking thought,” only in the giving up of the struggle for God, for peace, for plenty, for companionship, can these be experienced. He didn’t turn to God and say, “I’ll bring the power of God down to heal you or to raise you.” In fact, at the tomb of Lazarus he even said: “I don’t even have to pray, but for the sake of those around here who still believe in prayer.” But all he said was: “Lazarus, come forth.
