Practicing the Presence

In practicing the presence of God, we turn over the days and the nights to God. Eventually we turn over our household, our finances, our business, and the driving of our automobiles to God, even the driving of other drivers. Yes, we even place them under God’s grace. Gradually by this practice of the Presence, it becomes a simple matter to meditate because now, as we sit down, we automatically find ourselves in the midst of an inner quiet and an inner rhythm. Attainment of the Contemplative Life (3/5)

Once you personalize God, you separate yourself from God’s Grace. The moment you impersonalize by realizing the universal nature of God, and the equality of God’s Grace and bestowal, then you place yourself in the position of praying for your enemies. In other words, knowing the Truth equally about friend or foe, or Greek or Jew, or white or black, or Oriental or Occidental, you are knowing a universal Truth, and you are bringing yourself into a universal principle. The Tree Of Life (1/5)

That is why in prayer almost all prayer is a waste of time.  Well, let’s not put it that badly, just ninety-nine percent of it.  Ninety-nine percent of all prayer is a waste of time.  The reason for it is that ninety-nine percent of all prayer is an attempt to get something for one’s self or for another – in other words, to add to one’s ego, by virtue of one’s own powers, even if it is the power of prayer. Afterward then we can take pride in, “Oh, my prayers are so effective,” or “I have access to God,” or “I understand how to receive God’s grace.”  Again, it is a feeding of the ego.
