The Christ (5/5)

I know this that the Bible is literally true in those passages that present to us universal truth, such as, for instance: I will never leave you nor forsake you. All these passages that show that the Christ is right where we are; that it isn’t the Christ that has forsaken us, it isn’t God who has forsaken us, it’s that we have, in our human sense, become separated from God. We have not agreed that God can set a table before us in the wilderness. We have not agreed that there is nothing impossible to God. And where we have said, “Well, why doesn’t God do these things,” or “Why isn’t the human race better off?” We forget the very logical answer: The world isn’t turning to God; it’s turning to some finite concept of God. Paul called it the God whom ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you.   Continue reading The Christ (5/5)

Attainment of the Contemplative Life (3/5)

Once you personalize God, you separate yourself from God’s Grace. The moment you impersonalize by realizing the universal nature of God, and the equality of God’s Grace and bestowal, then you place yourself in the position of praying for your enemies. In other words, knowing the Truth equally about friend or foe, or Greek or Jew, or white or black, or Oriental or Occidental, you are knowing a universal Truth, and you are bringing yourself into a universal principle. The Tree Of Life (1/5)

That is why in prayer almost all prayer is a waste of time.  Well, let’s not put it that badly, just ninety-nine percent of it.  Ninety-nine percent of all prayer is a waste of time.  The reason for it is that ninety-nine percent of all prayer is an attempt to get something for one’s self or for another – in other words, to add to one’s ego, by virtue of one’s own powers, even if it is the power of prayer. Afterward then we can take pride in, “Oh, my prayers are so effective,” or “I have access to God,” or “I understand how to receive God’s grace.”  Again, it is a feeding of the ego. Starting The Contemplative Life (2/5)

The Kingdom of God is a Spirit, not a super human being, but a Spirit! And this step constitutes the very first step in attaining spiritual Light. It is the very first step in attaining an awareness of the presence of God because if you cannot accept this, then you would have to say, “Well, only Jews can have the presence of God,” or “Only Baptists can have the presence of God,” or “Only Buddhists can have the presence of God.” But this is nonsense. The presence of God is within you . . . whoever the “you” may be. Continue reading Starting The Contemplative Life (2/5)

World Problems Will Be Solved By A Change of Consciousness – continued

It would be helpful to the world if all of us who read this chapter would participate in periods of meditation in which we do not concern ourselves with our own health or wealth or that of our family or nation, but in which our sole function is to realize the presence and power of the Christ.
