Joel S. Goldsmith shares with us today in “Matthew 25: 34- 45” , tape 435B:
There are only three major principles that are of outstanding importance to us in the development of our spiritual life. The one above all others is meditation. Because without meditation the rest of it is just a mental exercise, it’s just another teaching, it’s just another set of books in the mind and spiritual progress spiritual unfoldment does not come that way. It is the meditation that makes the message live and the reason is this.
As we see ourselves humanly we are a branch of a tree. But we are a branch of a tree that is cut off from our source. The human being is not one with God. The human being if he were one with God would flourish, would bear fruit richly would be at peace would never entertain a thought or motive of injury to another or harm or destruction. In other words, an individual one with God, the human being if he were one with God would flourish, would bear fruit richly would be at peace would never entertain a thought or motive of injury to another or harm or destruction.
In other words an individual one with God is not living his own life but is merely the transparency through which God is living God’s life. An individual one with God does not have a life of his own or a mind of his own or even a body of his own because even your body is a temple of God. God is the real animating life and spirit of the body, when we are one with God.
But the fact of human life, as it is lived in the world, proves Paul’s statement that: as creatures, as humans you are not under the law of God neither indeed can be. You are not living by God’s grace: you’re merely living the life that in three score years and 10 or less or a little more, withers and dies.
Therefore and this was the original and the basic premise of the Infinite Way that or that brought about the introduction of the Infinite Way into human consciousness. That anyone can be God governed, anyone can live by grace, anyone can be the prodigal that returns to the Father’s house and again receives the jewel ring and the royal robe. Anyone can bear fruit richly but only by a return to the Father’s house only by abiding in the word and letting the word abide in thee.
Now the next question that comes up is, grant that this may be true. How does one make this contact with their Source? How does the prodigal return to the Father’s house? How does the branch of a tree that is cut off once more become united with the vine? And here is the point that will be easier for everyone that had no metaphysical background and a little bit more difficult for those who have had a metaphysical background.
For the way to this return through meditation is to understand the purpose or the object of meditation. That is to receive the Word of God the Spirit of God. The reason it’s a little bit difficult for the metaphysician is that they have been trained to go back to mind for a new automobile or a new house or a better position or health or wealth or fame and they overlook the fact that none of these are attainable that way.
God does not have health to give, God does not have wealth to give, God does not have happiness to give. God is Infinite Spirit and has nothing but Spirit to give, which we call the Word that is all that God has. And therefore to go into meditation for something or for somebody is to give yourself an immediate guarantee of failure.
The only way to go into meditation is to realize that meditation is a connecting link between your outer self and your inner self which is God. Your outer self, when it’s connected is the Son of God when it’s not connected it’s the son of man. But when you are connected with your Source you are the Son of God.
