The Mystical I – Summer Edition started yesterday. We meet weekly as a Healing Group. The talk of Joel S. Goldsmith that we used was tape 527B “Becoming Servants of God” . It is a London Talk from 1963, directed to tape group leaders, teachers and practitioners. Joel shares some essential ideas:
When we receive a message, then we are but the instruments messengers carrying it, the message must be meant for all consciousness. Joel emphasizes it is impersonal but to the benefit of all.
Every spiritual light you receive, every spiritual grace that you receive, look upon it it as that which makes you a better servant, a better messenger. In the ‘Parenthesis in Eternity” Joel emphasizes: do not take personal credit for it because it is not your personal accomplishment…

The quotes above we used in the introduction to the talk. To me it is “great stuff” to use in the class. What I shared was that there are three stages in our spiritual awakening:
LISTEN, LEARN & DO
First you read the ideas and like them and treasure them, then you start to ponder them, to finally accept them, now you become ready for the last phase of integration the application of the idea. This is in fact where you make effectual what you have learned.
- An example: bodily concerns
- Joel teaches us that it has no effect to pray for a healthy body
- He directs us to start our practice to experience communication with God
- I listen: ‘the body is not what I am’ . ‘Thy grace is my sufficiency in All things’
- I ponder this, love these ideas
- I learn, this must be true, God created me perfectly, suddenly I experience an uplifting that confirms to me, yes I can completely trust this
- I do: My previous bodily concerns have become redundant. Instead of being concerned I ask for Grace and sit still to become receptive. Thank you God!!
- This is just an example how this can go
