Now, do you not see why in practically every page of The Infinite Way writings, it tells you that regardless of how much treatment you give or how much praying you do, that you’re only halfway home and that it’s of no effect yet? No, no, it is of no effect until after you’ve given your treatment or after you have thought your prayer or after you have loved your God, that you sit in that silence until the Spirit of God descends upon you; until the Spirit of God comes and you feel the release in there, or you feel the Presence or you feel the glory, or you feel peace. You’ve got to in some way have an assurance that the Spirit of the Lord is with you. And then you can get up and forget all the rest of the world because It is gone before you to make the crooked places straight, It is this and It is that.
And so we come to the Master and what do we find with our Master? Ah ha! Ah, this is really, really, really a lesson. Oh, this isn’t a lesson; this is living life itself. And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee. Does that tell you what I mean? He returned in the Spirit, in the power of the Spirit. He just didn’t return. He returned in the power of the Spirit! That’s the whole secret of The Infinite Way. You’re either just a human being cut off from the Father or you are a branch that is one with the vine and the whole Spirit of God flows through you.
And there went out a fame of him throughout all the region roundabout.
Why?, because he was a man? No, because he was in the Spirit. And he taught in their synagogues, being glorified of all. And he came to Nazareth where he had been brought up and as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day and stood up for to read. And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias and when he had opened the book he found the place where it was written, The Spirit of the Lord is upon me because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor. He hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord. And he closed the book and he gave it again to the minister and sat down. And the eyes of them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him and he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.
Do you see the correlation between the Old Testament Isaiah and the New Testament of Luke? Do you not see that there is a correlation in scripture? Why? Because the scripture had its origin in what we call the Hebrew people or Israelites, and because that is carried right over into our day, until even today if we have spiritual vision we are called Israelites—Whether or not we are Hebrews in the background or Christians in the background. And do you not see that nothing in this world, whether in the Old Testament or the New, is going to make you a healer or give you spiritual powers, except what we read in Isaiah and what the Master adopted for himself in the New Testament, The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me. And then he tells you over and over again “I can of my own self do nothing, the Father within me doeth the works.”
And so I say to you: prayers, they’re a waste of time; church going, in and of itself is a waste of time; sacrifices, waste of time; tithing, waste of time. Everything’s a waste of time—unless the Spirit of God dwells in you! Then, then everything’s all right and it doesn’t make any difference then whether you pray in a Hebrew synagogue with your hat on or in a Christian church with your hat off. It makes no difference whether you sit in church with your shoes on or go to the Oriental temple and take your shoes off; God cares nothing. Is the Spirit of God upon you? And if it is you can preach the Gospel. You can get up in a Hebrew synagogue as Jesus did, and preach and be respected, or you can go out on the mountainside and teach as a Christian minister and be respected, because it isn’t you who’s respected it’s the Spirit of God that is upon you! And it either is or it isn’t. And as a human being it isn’t.
