The Government of Eden

Not to long ago we presented the new book of Joel S. Goldsmith, The Government of Eden. I was interested how this book came about, because obviously, Joel didn’t write it directly. I asked Acropolis Books for an interview or more information about how this book was created. In the following you can read how this all was done.

The Making of the Government of Eden

Not to long ago we presented the new book of Joel S. Goldsmith, The Government of Eden. I was interested how this book came about, because obviously, Joel didn’t write it directly. I asked Acropolis Books for an interview or more information about how this book was created. In the following you can read how this all was done.

Two years before the 2020 presidential election campaign in the United States, a new idea presented itself to the President of Acropolis Books: to create theme-based books from the live classwork conducted by the revered 20th-century mystic, Joel Goldsmith, on the all- important subject of government—politics, voting, elections, and international affairs.

With permission from The Infinite Way office, Acropolis Books launched a rigorous seven- month project. Working together, five highly qualified individuals applied their spiritual understanding and expertise to the task. Using the comprehensive search tool embedded on the Acropolis Books website, an editor combed through Goldsmith’s entire collection of books and recordings seeking appropriate material for the chosen themes. From those hundreds of sources, excerpts—mainly from original transcripts, but also from books—were extracted and compiled in a Word document.

The vast Infinite Way library of over 1200 recordings is replete with relevant spiritual insight which arise in the minds of responsible citizens today, such as choosing appropriate representation, understanding the true meaning of government, and avoiding manipulation. Goldsmith demonstrated that to be God-governed affects every facet of our lives, including the government we choose on Earth today.

Initially, providing a compilation of daily inspirations for study seemed to be the appropriate way to present the excerpts. However, as the content grew, the team realized how timeless it was and saw its potential as a full-blown book. This shift in focus required the introduction of chapter titles and subheadings to provide structure, with a careful arrangement of content to establish a clear flow of ideas. An added value of this book is its metaphorical approach. From Chapter IV through X, for example, each chapter begins with “When we judge,” or “When we are tempted by,” or “When we spread…,” and each section reveals the conscious practice of remaining in the “Eden consciousness.”

We used nearly 300 recorded lectures and 21 books in this comprehensive publication. Thirty-two of the recordings have not appeared in a book; they have only appeared as transcriptions. These excerpts were then woven together like a tapestry from multiple sources, resulting in a cohesive volume of great depth. What makes this book unique is there was no alteration of Joel’s exact words, except for minor edits, to aid the flow from paragraph to paragraph.

The book takes the reader on a personal and yet universal journey. The first three chapters delve into the spiritual truth of being: the freedom of living under God’s government and the peace of attaining the “Garden of Eden state of divine Consciousness.” From there, the book explores what happens when we leave the “Garden of Eden state of divine Consciousness” and follow the temptation to judge, argue, fight, condemn, spread fear or hysteria, personalize good and evil, or pray for human outcomes.

In the final section of the book, the reader “returns” to the Garden of Eden, a place of peace. In these last two chapters, the idea of returning to the Garden of Eden through spiritual self-discipline, adhering to one’s true identity and recognizing that of others, illuminates a state of divine Consciousness where temptations no longer predominate, and we find rest.

The material in this book is as relevant today as it was in the 20th century. It represents Goldsmith at his finest, revealing the practicality of the mystical message he taught and lived through The Infinite Way. The book will serve as a daily inspirational guide, not only in an election year but throughout the year, as we examine the way we govern ourselves.

As an IW student for more than 25 years, I purchased this book as soon as I discovered it was available. It is truly a treasure and joy reading the compilation of universal truths Joel brought through in the classes he offered and books he wrote over the years.
